"I am proud to be an NBA referee and I am proud to be a gay man," Kennedy told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night. "I am following in the footsteps of others who have self-identified in the hopes that will send a message to young men and women in sports that you must allow no one to make you feel ashamed of who you are." Good for you, Bill! I always thought some of your calls were kinda gay, now I know for sure that they were! Gay jokes aside (save your sensitivity, everybody on earth has to be able to take a joke or two), I'm glad Bill Kennedy had the courage/strength to come out of the closet. Especially after Rajon Rondo allegedly delivered a way-more egregious hammer the other day: Kennedy and fellow referee Ben Taylor described Rondo's post-ejection diatribe as including the statements: "You're a mother------- faggot. … You're a f------ faggot, Billy." Look, if people want to be gay, let them be gay and still treat them like any other human being. Pretty simple. So kudos again to Bill Kennedy for his courage to come out publicly. Do me a favor though and quit rewarding players for jumping into defenders, only seeking contact and not making a basketball play. By El Mijo
In my time waiting for "Better Call Saul" (which thankfully returns Feb. 15(Happy B-Day El Mijo!)) and "Game of Thrones" (fucking April), I've been searching for a new show to give me my fill of action/drama. Yes, I could go the safe route and pick a "House of Cards" or a "Ray Donovan" but those two shows just have never made it to my screen for some reason. A few weeks ago, I found myself recording the premiere of AMC's new martial-arts style show Into the Badlands, and after watching episode 4, I texted my fellow ITB friend/watcher The Derp to tell him I'm officially hooked. The Fight scenes certainly grab your attention Sunny (above, ironic name, I know) is one of the most feared "Clippers" in all of the Badlands and delivers ruthless ass-kickings at least once an episode. The tattoos on his back represent every kill he has loyally done in the interest of his Baron. Gory, creative and shocking, the fight scenes satisfy your inner blood/action thirst to the max. The Acting/Story is coming along: The show features a couple teenagers who have a long way to go in the acting department but every child actor is pretty much shit when they first start out. Don't let the little shits be a wrench in your side because The Baron (Quinn) will easily become your favorite character. The Baron mixes a dirty southern accent with a ruthless, despicable character and the results are phenomenal. Sunny is also a great actor while the rest of the lesser folks are serviceable and coming along. The first two episodes are slow but really take off after the third show. Don't let the crappy acting of "M.K. & Tilda" scare you off, this show is legit. AMC on Sunday nights, watch it by yourself or with your homies. By: El Mijo
Happy Friday! Let's just assume that everybody on the basketball planet knows exactly how good the Warriors are, so we don't have to cover them really. Just know that when the streak ends, it most certainly won't be the last thing Curry and Warriors will do this season to drop your jaw. The domination will continue. Moving on, hear are some quick NBA notes and updates!
Uncle Pat's Kings continue to be an enigma.. The Kings are so hard to figure out! One week they look great and Rondo/Cousins are just picking apart defenses, the next week they look awful and have some serious issues. One thing is for sure, Rondo is still legit...
Mystery in Chicago
The Bulls are holding their heads above water but it's tough to find consistency with anybody not named Jimmy Butler. Derrick Rose will disappear for quarters at a time, Pau Gasol's age is slowing down his production and even Joakim Noah looks lost among the different roles he has in the rotation. It's about time we place D-Rose in the "greatness that could have been" category. Rose will still hammer out a decent NBA career but his MVP/All Star days are likely over. It's a shame what injuries and a weird personality have done to D-Rose when he used to do things like this... Jeremy Lin's Haircuts
Dragonball-Z has to be the stupidest, most-overrated cartoon from my childhood but this comparison is pretty spot-on. What did Lin do for an encore??
Handsome fella! Try to stifle your laughter when I say that my hair grows/looks exactly like Lin's. Keep fighting the good fight in finding a hair-style that works, Jeremy!
NBA is sick of the 76ers shit/tanking
NBA owners finally had Adam Silver flex his muscle and essentially forced the 76ers to hire a basketball mind (Team USA Guru Jerry Colangelo) to help manage/rebuild an organization stuck in tank mode. When your GM over the past 4 seasons wastes top picks (Carter-Williams/Joel Embiid), fails to acquire any decent Free Agents and sets record-breaking losing streaks, the NBA gets sick of your shit pretty fast. The 76ers still won't be any good this season but at least this is a step in the right direction. The NBA likes to make money and losing teams don't do that. 76ers GM Sam Hinkie's days are numbered..
Lebron sign's Nike's first ever life-time deal
This life-time deal will ensure Lebron James well over 500 million dollars. Think about that for a second, over a half-billion dollars for Lebron James, just from Nike. When people blasted Lebron all those years ago when he said he wants to be a billionaire, he's now well past the halfway point just from one of his endorsements. Now it's not a matter of if Lebron will be in the billionaire club, but when. He already has his Pizza Chain investment blowing up and also partnered with Hollywood to work with WME (his agency). We are seeing a new type of basketball super star in Lebron James, this super star is also a shrewd Business-Man that maximizes all of his marketing/financial value on and off the court. Not bad for a kid who didn't go to college and will become a billionaire before he's 50. By: El Mijo
Miss this show like crazy. Supposedly like over 90% of all the material was improved which is even more impressive and hilarious. Happy Wednesday! By: El Mijo
