I haven't done a movie review in some time but definitely wanted to provide one here because this movie is catching a lot of heat from fans/critics. Saw it in IMAX 3D too, so definitely was in the optimum environment that Warner Bros. was looking for fans to be in.
Overall Grade: B (84.2%)
See it with: Your homie g-dog slices. Leave your girl/wife at home for this one, it's also almost three hours long and isn't a bubbly super hero movie.
Warning before you go: It's a super hero movie so expect CGI, expect some lame acting and lazy plot points/holes in the story. IMAX is also expensive and as I mentioned above, it's a long-one so hit the pisser before it starts.
Summary: The standards for super hero movies have really sky-rocketed. Ever since Christopher Nolan made the Batman movies dark and gritty, super hero movies are either going for that same tone or trying to emulate the Marvel-Disney path with creativity/fun with superhero characters that Iron Man helped craft. Batman V Superman definitely goes gritty before fun. It's not going to blow you away but there were some real solid parts of the movie where I was truly entertained and left the movie satisfied and ready for what DC throws at me next (Suicide Squad looks awesome). It's so difficult to translate the powers of Superman onto the screen without using a boat-load of CGI, but what you can take from this movie is that Superman is ridiculously powerful. Anytime he hits his speed or lands on the ground, his force/strength is undeniable and I thought director Zack Snyder nailed it there. Affleck was a solid Batman even though they threw his story/background together with extreme haste. My favorite scene was when Batman beat the shit out of about 20 dudes and actually killed a couple guys. His fury and fighting skills were a good fit for the character, Batman never belongs in the Tim Burton fantasy-artsy world where criminals go down after one punch and a witty comment, he belongs in the dark criminal-justice realm, bringing the pain and even execution in some cases. Bottom line, I enjoyed Batman V Superman and wait for the new Joker/Suicide Squad coming later this year with high hopes for Warner Bros. new super hero direction.
Oscar of the Movie: 3-Way Tie between Superman/Batman/Lex Luther - All three of them had their good/bad moments but the trio did well overall in my opinion.
