Our very own Logan Sterling plays D-Line for those frigid Wildcats of Northern Michigan. Why give an recap/evaluation of Game 1 when you can hear one from his own father..

Well…wish I was there to call the offense. NMU dropped their first game 20-7. Offense had 5 turnovers and defense was on the field for 70% of the day - with limited squad because it was an away game. Needless to say, Logan was on the field for most of the game.
As for Logs, he got the start at Nose and he played well. He normally plays a 3-technique but moved over to Nose on short notice (bouncing the backup) for this game because the starting nose (“Fireplug” William Brice) was dinged up. It was an away game so the number of D-linemen in the mix (that travelled) was limited so he got a little gassed near the end. The other team ran this pistol-wing-option attack so he had to take on double teams all fricking day. Needless to say, he was pretty sore afterwards. When he was 1-1 with the guard or center, we saw some great stuff but doubles are what they are in that space so it was a matter of holding his ground and making a pile.
He was critical of his play (which is good) but overall, I thought he did a great job for not competing in a game since 2013. He had 4 tackles (1 for loss), 1 caused fumble, and 2 QB pressures (one of which resulted in an INT). He kicked the first center’s ass so they brought in a bigger/lower kid that went about 350. He battled him for a bit and had his way a few times but in the end, because the D was on the field for 70% of the day, he and the other starters had to be subbed out more as the fourth quarter wore on. The bus ride back to Marquette was a 5 hour gig and he said he downed more gatorade then he ever has. They had film, full practice, and weight session yesterday and afterwards he spent an hour icing and electro-stim on his shoulder. He said his shoulder held up well which is nice!
It was a trip watching him play again. Like I told Brent - Susanne and I were pretty nervous. It was his first game EVER (including flag football), I was not at - which was hard. We are pretty proud of him though. He went to camp ready to go and his hard work paid off and he was on the field with mostly Juniors and Seniors. He plays a position that is pretty thankless unless you play for a guy like John - who was really fired up with how Logan handled his job. We are blessed to have met The Parrella’s and there is no better coach then JP.
Hoping he gets to move (rotating in) back to the 3 technique this week (outside shade of guard) in the 4-man front. He’s probably still the main nose in their 3-man front. But all of that can change with he and his boys still competing for spots.
