Today I lost one of my best friends in the whole world. No matter how much El Mijo told me it hurts, I never thought it would hurt this bad. We rescued Buddy from a shit hole of a "breeder" out in Ione and then pulled ticks and fleas off of him the entire drive home. When selecting which one we wanted we settled on the dog chilling at the back of the pen sleeping with his head on a cinder block, that loved it when we scratched the back of his ears.
He immediately began learning how to be a proper dog from the OG Bandit. He enjoyed sleeping under my bed in my room and using Nate as a pin cushion whenever we wrestled. Since he lived in our wonderful house, we trained him how to fight with the multitude of Nate and my plastic lightsabers. His personal favorite was Mace Windu's purple lightsaber.
Everyone gets excited for opening stockings on Christmas and Buddy was no different. He loved Christmas morning and he would go through and pull everything out of his stocking. His favorite was always treats. He would get toys but he loved treats. When we would go into the other room to open presents he would sneak back into the other room and find his bag of treats and eat as many as he could before we would come in and stop him. Every year he did this.
He also loved the pool like most labs. No matter how old he would go back to his puppy roots and run full speed and jump into the pool for hours as long as you kept throwing his tennis ball. This was then followed by the strangest/smartest/funniest rituals of all time. Anyone who knew Buddy knew that his favorite thing to do was give himself a back massage with his own tennis ball. He would put it in the grass and lay on his back and roll around on top of it. No other dog was smart enough/cool enough to do that.
I can't believe this day has finally come. I will miss you Bud and I know there's a big 'ol pool up their with a tennis ball shooter for you to jump all day. Love you Bud and rest in peace.
