I want to start off by saying that I am not taking a side here. We, as in Mizzou Baseball, had a mandatory team meeting Sunday night with regard to this whole situation. We pledged to respect the football team's plea for privacy by not commenting to the media or on social media. I also don't want anything bad getting back to me. That is why you haven't seen any lengthy posts by me siding with either the Wolfe or Jonathan Butler, the graduate student who took part in the hunger strike.
With all of that in mind, the inevitable happened. Tim Wolfe resigned today while I was in class. Whether this was the correct decision or not, only time will tell. It sucks to see Wolfe have to lose his job because of this, but it relieved tension on campus and it made a considerable impact immediately. His speech made it seem like he was forced out rather than him stepping down, saying that "This is not, I repeat, not, the way change should come about". Wolfe was raised here in Columbia, and even lead local high school Rock Bridge to a state championship as the quarterback, which makes this whole story even sadder. But what is done is done and Mizzou now needs to move forward.
I also wanted to post this. I mentioned this to the fellow Honer Sports writers and they were interested to see it. These are the demands issued by Concerned Students 1950, an organization that is connected with Butler. I'll let you come to your own conclusions about them, but I just wanted to show everyone what they were fighting for.

I want to finish by saying that there's never a place for racism in today's society. It's awful to see the incidents that culminated in all of this happen on my campus, and frankly it's appalling that everyone in the nation will now associate Mizzou with racism.

PS: This was from today's Sportscenter. The ESPN guys were reporting live from the quad where hundreds of students had gathered in the wake of today's announcement. I loved how the frat guys knew where to place themselves to get air time.
