What a Sunday! The rain didn't stop the Aficionados, nor did it stop the Truth in Blaine Gabbert! I said it in the parking lot prior to the game, if all Gabbert does during this game is look left, then we will be OK. Well he did a little more than look left, he essentially/potentially ended Kaepernick's career as a 49er. Let's not kid ourselves here, the 49ers are still not very good and Falcons head coach Todd Bowles pretty much handed the game over to us but a win is a win! My detailed Levi Stadium observationist, Uncle Todd, will provide the standard "Dear Levi's" bashing so I'll go over the important notes from the performance on the field
BG2 is the Truth!: Why do I keep calling Gabbert the Truth? Gabbert represents the truth about where this franchise is heading. Gabbert may not be the answer at QB, but the truth is that Kaepernick is no longer the answer at QB for the 49ers moving forward. I may have let the tequila do the talking when I wished Kaepernick off the field while he briefly filled in for BG2 in the 3rd quarter. Kaep didn't deserved to be booed from what he has done for this franchise in the past but this is professional sports, Land of "what have you done for me lately?". I do hope we keep rolling with Gabbert as the starter, I'd really like to see what he can do with a healthy Boldin/Hyde. The QB story in SF is far from over, and anything could happen now that BG2 is 1-0. The Niners have 2 weeks before they go up to Seattle where Dick Sherman & Co. await..
Navarro Bowman is Back: Number 53 was flying around the field yesterday and finally looked like his old-self. I've said before that Bowman will always have a free pass with me no matter what he does moving forward but god dammit, it was fantastic to see him playing at his full speed again. Bowman in his prime was a Top-5 linebacker in the league, if he can somewhat return to form and be the gritty veteran to lead the 49er defense, sign me up. The 49er defense is actually not too bad if they aren't on the field most of the game. Although it won't help our draft position at all, 6-10 or 7-9 wouldn't be the dagger in 49er fans hearts going into the off-season. Navarro could bring this defense back to at least the middle of the pack if our offense got some more consistency after the bye.
Tomsula is a replaceable Puppet: This has already been said before but after Sunday, it's clear that Jimmy-T is going to be a band-aid coach, at very best. However painful it might be for Jed York to rip that band-aid off, it will eventually have to be done. Every game of the year, the 49ers have either been blown out, or have squeaked out a victory based on another team's errors or lack of execution. None of the wins the 49ers have this season can be legitimately credited to the coaching staff. I'm sure the players/front office really like Jimmy-T but if the 49ers want to get anywhere close to the playoffs again, they need a head coach/staff that can win with authority. Will the 49ers shell out the cash for a coach/staff like this? Probably not anytime soon, because the 49ers are still owned by the Yorks.
