Every 49er fan on the planet already knows this, but back-up QB Blaine Gabbert will officially get the start this Sunday vs the Falcons. I will say this before we dive into more relevant items, BG-2 has the physical appearance of the stereotypical, white-guy NFL QB. He's not tattoo'd to the forty-nines, rocking ugly headphones around his neck or Instagram-ing his hat/shoe collection so he's got that going for him, which is nice. Let's answer some questions as best we can about what's going to happen moving forward because this is a huge move for a football franchise to bench a QB that once led you to the Super Bowl.
Does this mean that Kaep is done with the 49ers?
-Still too early to tell. Some reports say this is temporary and we could see Kaep after the bye start vs the Seahawks because upper management still has faith in his talent. Some say this is the end and Kaep is being shopped but will likely draw no trades. When a QB is benched like this and a franchise is in turmoil like the 49ers are, you can only wait and see what the plan will be moving forward. The 9ers are probably wary of starting Kaep up in Seattle though, given his recent history of taking a dump on the field vs divisional foes on the road. My guess is that Kaep will be back under center to play the Cardinals at home Nov.29th.
Is Blaine Gabbert any good?
-Based on past performances, no. Blaine Gabbert is bad. Granted, he played for the shitty Jaguars so the sample size of his past games as a starter are as follows: 4,357 yards, 22 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in 27 starts. He was beaten to a pulp behind a terrible Jaguars offensive line so he will be thrown into a situation he has some familiarity with. My guess is that Gabbert will play decent but not much better than what we have been seeing. The "Kaep returning" rumblings will grow louder after each Gabbert start but hey? We could get lucky and find a decent QB to hold us over till the draft.
Have the 49ers thrown the towel for the season?
-If they haven't already done so, then they should but all signs are pointing to a full rebuild. Benching your QB and trading Vernon Davis are hopefully only the beginning of the 49ers hitting a reset button. The sooner you do this, always the better when your franchise currently is where the 49ers are.
Are Baalke and/or Tomsula going to be fired? If/When?
-According to insiders, Tomsula has job security after this season. Mind-blowing as this is, Tomsula is Jed York's hand-picked guy. York is a vein, pompous-ass owner so he will stick to his guns for at least another season. If Tomsula has security for next season, then we can assume Baalke does as well. York will make the big mistake of letting Trent get another shot at drafting talent in 2016. Like it or not, Baalke/Tomsula are Jed's hand-picked guys and they aren't going anywhere soon. Maybe York pulls a 180 and intelligently fires Baalke, paving the way for a new GM to come in and pick a coach of his own that will oust Tomsula but putting faith in Jed York is like trying to nail Jell-O to the wall.
Is Carrie attending the 49er game on Sunday?
-Much to Slappy and the Chosen One's delight, yes, Carrie will be at the game on Sunday as Flap's replacement.
