"I am proud to be an NBA referee and I am proud to be a gay man," Kennedy told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night. "I am following in the footsteps of others who have self-identified in the hopes that will send a message to young men and women in sports that you must allow no one to make you feel ashamed of who you are."
Good for you, Bill! I always thought some of your calls were kinda gay, now I know for sure that they were!
Gay jokes aside (save your sensitivity, everybody on earth has to be able to take a joke or two), I'm glad Bill Kennedy had the courage/strength to come out of the closet. Especially after Rajon Rondo allegedly delivered a way-more egregious hammer the other day: Kennedy and fellow referee Ben Taylor described Rondo's post-ejection diatribe as including the statements: "You're a mother------- faggot. … You're a f------ faggot, Billy."
Look, if people want to be gay, let them be gay and still treat them like any other human being. Pretty simple. So kudos again to Bill Kennedy for his courage to come out publicly. Do me a favor though and quit rewarding players for jumping into defenders, only seeking contact and not making a basketball play.
